Italian skier Matilde Lorenzi, who was just 19 years old, has passed away due to injuries sustained in a training accident in northern Italy, according to the International Ski and Snowboard Federation. The federation expressed deep sorrow over her tragic death.
Lorenzi met her fate following a fall on the Grawand G1 slope in Val Senales during a training session. Despite being airlifted to a hospital in Bolanzo, she could not survive her injuries.
Hailing from Villarbasse near Turin, Lorenzi was affiliated with the Italian army, and her demise was officially announced by the national defense ministry. She had a promising career, having competed in the junior world championships last season, where she secured sixth place in downhill and eighth in super-G. Additionally, she participated in the European Cup circuit and was crowned the Italian junior overall and Super-G champion in the previous year. Lorenzi's sister, Lucrezia, is also a competitive skier, having participated in the slalom events of the World Cup series.
