Janice Combs, the mother of Sean 'Diddy' Combs, has spoken out following her son's arrest on charges of sex trafficking and racketeering. In a statement released on Sunday through her attorney, Natlie G. Figgers, Janice expressed her belief in her son's innocence and refuted the allegations of sexual abuse, calling him a 'monster'.
'I come to you today as a mother that is devastated and profoundly saddened by the allegations made against my son, Sean Combs. It is heartbreaking to see my son judged not for the truth, but for a narrative created out of lies,' Janice stated.
She emphasized that Diddy, who has been denied bail twice since his September 16 arrest and remains incarcerated in Brooklyn, is not perfect and has made mistakes in the past. Janice referenced a 2016 incident where Diddy was seen physically assaulting his then-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura, in a hotel, despite his earlier denials.
Janice continued, 'Sometimes, the truth and a lie become so closely intertwined that it becomes terrifying to admit one part of the story, especially when that truth is outside the norm or is too complicated to be believed. This is why I believe my son's civil legal team opted to settle the ex-girlfriend's lawsuit instead of contesting it until the end, resulting in a ricochet effect as the federal government used this decision against my son by interpreting it as an admission of guilt.'
She argued that Diddy's past actions do not equate to guilt for the current charges. 'Many individuals who were wrongfully convicted and later exonerated had their freedom taken from them not because they were guilty of the crimes they were accused of, but because they didn't fit the image of what this society considers to be a 'good person.' History has showed us how individuals can be wrongfully convicted due to their past actions or mistakes,' Janice noted.
Janice criticized Diddy's accusers, suggesting they were motivated by financial gain rather than justice, and accused the federal government of using these allegations to prosecute her son. 'This injustice has been unbearable for our family,' she said. 'The worst part of this ordeal is watching my beloved son be stripped of his dignity, not for what he did, but for what people choose to believe about him.'
Diddy faces charges of sex trafficking, racketeering, and transportation to engage in prostitution. In a recent indictment, prosecutors alleged that the music producer engaged in a 'decades-long pattern of physical and sexual violence against multiple victims.' Diddy has pleaded not guilty to all charges, and his next court appearance is scheduled for Wednesday.
Diddy's attorney has maintained his client's innocence, stating, 'Mr. Combs emphatically and categorically denies as false and defamatory any claim that he sexually abused anyone, including minors. He looks forward to proving his innocence and vindicating himself in court if and when claims are filed and served, where the truth will be established based on evidence, not speculation.'
