Jannik Sinner secured his 50th victory of the year on Thursday, advancing to the third round of the US Open. The world's top-ranked player, Sinner, overcame America's 49th-ranked Alex Michelsen with a score of 6-4, 6-0, 6-2, marking his fourth consecutive year reaching the last 32 in New York. The 23-year-old Italian had previously bested his Californian opponent two weeks earlier in Cincinnati, achieving his 30th hard court win of 2024. Sinner delivered 28 winners and achieved eight service breaks.
"He's a formidable opponent. We've faced off in Cincinnati. I was aware of what to anticipate, and he had an idea too," Sinner commented. Sinner went on to win his fifth championship of the season in Cincinnati. Subsequently, it was disclosed that Sinner had avoided a ban despite testing positive for an anabolic agent twice in March, with authorities accepting his claim that the positive results were due to contamination.
Sinner is set to compete against Australia's Christopher O'Connell for a spot in the last 16.
