Japan has restarted its e-visa services for residents of the UAE, who will soon be able to apply through VFS Global, as reported by Khaleej Times. The Consulate General of Japan in Dubai has confirmed that residents can start applying for the e-visa from August 1, 2024. VFS Global's website now lists itself as a partner of both the Embassy of Japan in the UAE and the Consulate-General of Japan in Dubai. This resumption is a relief for expatriates in the UAE, allowing them to complete the entire visa process online, from application to payment. The e-visa service was very popular among residents, making Japan a top choice among Asian destinations. However, it was temporarily suspended on April 27, 2024, complicating the visa process for those planning to travel to Japan. Previously, expats had to email the consulate in Dubai to schedule an appointment, a process that many found challenging due to limited appointment slots. Emiratis, on the other hand, could still enter Japan without a visa. The e-visa, a short-term permit, allows foreigners to stay in Japan for up to 90 days and is valid for three months from the date of issuance. Residents from countries including Brazil, Cambodia, Canada, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Africa, Taiwan, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, and the USA are eligible to apply for this e-visa for tourism purposes.
