Jason Segel’s mother, Jillian Jordan, went into crisis PR mode after her son exposed everything in “Forgetting Sarah Marshall,” sending an email to their entire family about what they would witness in the movie.

Segel, 44, discussed his mother’s reaction to his full frontal nude scene in the 2008 comedy during an interview with “Today” show’s Willie Geist, 49, on Oct. 20 for a segment on the series called “Sunday Sitdown.” As they reflected on Segel’s career during the Season 2 rollout of his Apple TV+ show “Shrinking,” Geist mentioned “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” and its opening scene, where Segel appears fully nude—a scene inspired by Segel’s real-life experience of being dumped while naked.

“It’s a great movie. That must have been gratifying because, in some ways, that was your breakthrough,” Geist told Segel.

“It was pretty great. But the best part was,” Segel responded, “I didn’t tell my mom about the full frontal nudity. And then I took her to the premiere.” Smiling, he added that his family “is going to be so mad I’m telling this story right now because they love your show.”

Segel continued, explaining that at the “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” premiere, “my parents were sitting next to me and suddenly the breakup scene happened, and there I was, fully naked, and the audience was gasping.” He looked at his mom, expecting her to laugh, but she was “beet red.”

“She asked, ‘Why didn’t you tell me?’ I said, ‘I thought it would be a funny joke.’ She said, ‘This is not a funny joke.’”

To warn the rest of her family and prevent them from experiencing the same shock, Segel’s mom quickly sent an email to their relatives after the premiere. “I would like to inform you that Jason has chosen to do full frontal nudity in his upcoming film,” Segel recalled the email saying. “However, I assure you it’s not gratuitous and essential to the plot.”

Laughing with Geist, Segel added, “Hi, Mom. I love you so much.” Segel had previously mentioned his mother’s horrified reaction to his full frontal nudity, telling “Vanity Fair” in 2014 that “she cried” after watching the scene.

Season 2 of “Shrinking” is now streaming on Apple TV+.
