Jay Shah, currently serving as the secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), has risen as the frontrunner to replace Greg Barclay as the chair of the International Cricket Council (ICC). The BCCI is optimistic that Shah will be chosen without opposition, considering the broad endorsement he has garnered from numerous cricket boards. A senior source within the board has affirmed this. The ICC's main office is located in Dubai. To be nominated, the ICC mandates a proposer and a seconder. It is reported that England and Australia are poised to support Shah's nomination, enhancing his prospects for the leadership role. As per ICC regulations, all 16 current ICC directors must submit their nominations by August 27 to be eligible for the chairmanship. Greg Barclay, who is permitted to serve a third two-year term, has declared his intention not to run for re-election, clearing the path for Shah's possible rise. Should Shah be elected, he would be the youngest ICC chief at 36 years old. This would also mark him as the newest addition to a series of notable Indians who have held this esteemed role, including Jagmohan Dalmiya, Sharad Pawar, N. Srinivasan, and Shashank Manohar. Presently, Jay Shah holds the position of BCCI-appointed ICC director and chairs the ICC's Finance and Commercial Affairs sub-committee, one of the most powerful bodies within the ICC. His leadership in these capacities, along with the robust support from international cricket boards, positions him well to steer the ICC in the forthcoming years.
