A stunning eagle on the 18th hole was the key for Jayson Hilton and Stuart Carr to clinch the first Captains’ Trophy at the Jumeirah Golf Estates, narrowly edging out Andy Parks and Christopher Wilmot in a countback. The event took place on the Fire course and drew 108 participants who competed in a Pairs Betterball format, in both Gross and Net divisions.
Hilton and Carr claimed the top spot in the Gross Division with a two-under-par gross score of 70. Their victory was secured with an eagle on the 18th hole, following three birdies on their scorecard, ultimately winning in a countback. The handicap allowance was set at 85 per cent of the Course Handicap, with play from the Tournament and Orange Ladies’ Tees for both men and ladies.
Parks and Wilmot, with the same score, narrowly missed the victory despite three birdies across the 18 holes and a steady performance throughout the round. Richard Aybar and Jonathan Duncan clinched the third spot, winning in a three-way countback with a score of 71, one under par.
Martin Stewart and Alfie Waters were crowned champions of the Net Division, scoring eight under par, highlighted by nine net birdies and a net eagle. They secured a two-shot victory from the rest of the field.
During the prize-giving ceremony, Noel O’Leary, Captain of Jumeirah Golf Estates and General Manager of deVere Acuma – sponsors of the event, expressed his gratitude, “Thanks to all for supporting me and Anna-Retha as JGE Captains in this inaugural event. Also to sponsor Black Sheep and Mezzanine. It was a wonderful day and thanks to all for their support.”
