Actor Jenna Ortega has removed her profile from X, previously known as Twitter, following the receipt of AI-generated offensive material concerning her, as reported by Deadline. During a discussion about 'Beetlejuice Beetlejuice' and the second season of Netflix's 'Wednesday,' Ortega reflected on her experiences growing up in the public eye and navigating her identity as a young woman in the film industry.
In reference to her forthcoming movie, an adaptation of Kazuo Ishiguro's novel 'Klara and the Sun,' directed by Taika Waititi, where she plays the lead robot character, Ortega expressed her profound unease with AI. 'I detest AI,' she declared. 'AI has the potential for remarkable applications. Recently, I learned that it can identify breast cancer up to four years before its development, which is truly commendable. However, I strongly oppose its misuse. The idea of being 14 years old, compelled to create a Twitter account, only to encounter inappropriate manipulated images of myself as a child, is deeply disturbing. It's morally corrupt and entirely wrong.'
The Emmy-nominated actress further explained, 'I once maintained that Twitter account, but was advised that it was essential for building my public image. Ultimately, I decided to delete it around two to three years ago due to the deluge of bizarre images and photos that surfaced after the show's release. I was already in a state of confusion, so I chose to delete it.' She continued, 'The content was revolting and made me feel ill at ease. Consequently, I decided one day that I no longer needed it and chose to deactivate my account,' as reported by Deadline.
'Beetlejuice Beetlejuice' is set to premiere in UAE theaters on September 5.
