After 35 years of reviewing cars, does Jeremy Clarkson still have the same passion for them? Many enthusiasts are likely pondering this question. The answer? No, he doesn't, and he was quite candid about his reasons—he believes modern cars are 'all shit now.'
Recently, Clarkson hosted a watch party for the final episode of The Grand Tour, where he fielded questions from the audience. He revealed that he can't identify 80 or 90 percent of today's car models. 'I don't know what they are. I don't care,' he stated. 'They go, 'We got a new hybrid drive system,' and I just couldn't give a shit.'
Clarkson prefers older cars, arguing that they are lighter. The new BMW M5 exemplifies his point, boasting a nearly 900-pound hybrid system and weighing a hefty 5,390 pounds. This makes it heavier than the Chevrolet Tahoe and the Ford F-150, suggesting he might be onto something. Or perhaps he's simply getting older and it's time to retire.
Clarkson, along with James May and Richard Hammond, dissolved their production company earlier this year after two decades of entertaining audiences. However, this isn't the end for The Grand Tour. Amazon plans to replace the trio with new hosts, though specifics are still unclear.
Clarkson hopes Amazon opts for fresh faces rather than well-known personalities, noting that they weren't famous before becoming hosts. 'They need to find young kids who really know their cars and then get them to host a show,' he said. 'I'm hoping Amazon will do that. Just find some people who know their cars.'
