Are you a Dubai resident or tourist looking to enjoy jet skiing on the weekends? Or perhaps you're a sports trainer aiming to assist individuals in learning to ride a jet ski? For either scenario, you'll need a license from the relevant authorities. First, you must register and apply for a license for the jet ski itself, and you also need a marine driving license to operate it.

To apply for a craft license, visit the official website of the Dubai Maritime Authority (DMA). Navigate to DMA services from the top menu, then select 'marine craft registration'. According to a call centre agent, issuing a license for a jet ski falls under the 'pleasure marine crafts' category, though there may be exceptions. You can also apply through customer happiness centres or the DMA smart application.

Required documents for craft license include:

After logging in via UAE Pass or a personal account, start an online application and attach the necessary documents. Once your request is approved, you can schedule an inspection appointment and pay the fees. Ensure all technical requirements are met before the inspection.

After passing the technical inspection, visit the Critical Infrastructure and Coastal Protection Authority (Coast Guard) office to install a safety and security transponder for the marine craft. Update the insurance details in the DMCA portal or smart applications. Attach the required documents for the second stage and pay the applicable fees.

Once the license is received, install the telecommunication device (VHF) if applicable. According to the DMA website, the marine craft license application will be canceled automatically if all requirements are not met within three months of submission, and no fees will be refunded.

For those interested in riding a jet ski, apply for a pleasure marine craft driving license through the website, smart applications, or customer centres. Applicants must meet age criteria and complete a training course at a certified training centre, either in or outside the country.

Visitors can apply for a temporary marine craft driving license if they are at least 18 years old. Required documents include a marine crew licensing application form, a recent personal photo, a copy of the passport and valid visit visa, and a certificate of course completion from a DMCA-certified training centre in the UAE.

For foreign certificate holders, an equivalency certificate is required. Submit the marine crew licensing application form, original certificate or license, and a copy of the passport, ID, and residence visa. The equivalency certificate is valid for one month from the date of approval.

To become a jet ski trainer, obtain a marine sports trainer permit. Required documents include a marine crew licensing application form, a recent personal photo, original Emirates ID and passport copy for UAE nationals, and a valid residence visa for expatriates.

Fees:

Pleasure marine craft license – Dh120

Pleasure marine craft driving license issuance – Dh620

Marine sports trainer permit issuance – Dh1,020
