One of the most disappointing seasons in the Jets' history has culminated in the team dismissing both its head coach and general manager. A source confirmed that the team fired GM Joe Douglas on Tuesday. This follows owner Woody Johnson's decision to fire head coach Robert Saleh on October 8th. Douglas has been the Jets' GM since June 2019, finishing with a record of 30-64 during his tenure. His time will be remembered for significant misses, such as selecting quarterback Zach Wilson at No. 2 overall in 2021 and drafting tackle Mekhi Becton in the first round in 2020. However, he also had some successes, like the 2022 draft class featuring Sauce Gardner, Garrett Wilson, Jermaine Johnson, and Breece Hall.

Douglas made a significant move in April 2023 when he traded for veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Unfortunately, this move has not paid off, as Rodgers tore his Achilles in Week 1 of 2023 and has struggled this season. The Jets, who entered the season with Super Bowl aspirations, now stand at 3-8 with six games remaining after this week's bye. The Jets will undergo a complete overhaul during the 2025 offseason, aiming to hire both a general manager and a coach in the same offseason for the first time since 2015.
