US President Joe Biden has backed Vice President Kamala Harris as the 2024 Democratic nominee following his withdrawal from the re-election race on Sunday. The president revealed his choice via a message on X.

"My fellow Democrats, I have opted not to pursue the nomination and instead concentrate all my efforts on fulfilling my presidential duties for the rest of my term. My initial choice as the party nominee in 2020 was to select Kamala Harris as my Vice President. It remains the best choice I have made," he stated.

"Today, I fully endorse Kamala to lead our party as the nominee this year. Democrats, it's imperative we unite and triumph over Trump. Let's achieve this," he continued. Biden, in a separate message on X, confirmed he will continue in his role as president and commander-in-chief until his term concludes in January 2025 and plans to speak to the nation this week.
