Johnny Depp and Penelope Cruz are set to reunite for the upcoming thriller Day Drinker, directed by Marc Webb. The film is scheduled to premiere at the American Film Market (AFM). This project is a pivotal moment for Depp, as it signifies his most significant effort to revive his Hollywood career after a series of controversies related to his highly publicized divorce from actress Amber Heard. In recent times, Depp has been involved in the French period drama Jeanne du Barry and directed the indie film Modi: Three Days on the Wing of Madness, but these projects were not commercially driven and had European funding. Day Drinker is firmly rooted in the action genre, with a gripping storyline involving a cruise ship bartender who encounters a mysterious day drinker, leading them both into the dark realms of a criminal underworld, as reported by Deadline. Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chair Adam Fogelson commended the film, stating, "Day Drinker blends a highly commercial concept with wildly outrageous twists and turns, all set in an extraordinary world. There is no better filmmaker than Marc or two more perfectly cast actors than Johnny and Penelope to bring that world to life." This collaboration marks the fourth time Depp and Cruz have teamed up, following their roles in Blow, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, and Murder on the Orient Express.
