The United Arab Emirates, United States, Switzerland, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the African Union, and the United Nations have released a joint statement on Sudan: “We are actively engaged in Switzerland on the initial day of focused diplomatic endeavors aimed at supporting humanitarian access, cessation of hostilities, and adherence to the outcomes of previous Jeddah meetings, other initiatives, and international humanitarian law.” Prior to this, the UAE had expressed deep concern in a statement about the severe humanitarian crisis in Sudan, where over 25 million citizens are facing extreme food insecurity. The UAE had also previously emphasized that the humanitarian situation in Sudan requires an urgent response to secure a ceasefire and expedite the delivery of humanitarian assistance. Earlier, the UAE had strongly condemned the use of starvation as a weapon of war, the blocking of humanitarian access for civilians in need, and the indiscriminate attacks that prevent people from receiving aid—all of which are blatant violations of international humanitarian law.
