Jordan cautioned on Sunday about the rising tensions in southern Lebanon and the possibility of a regional conflict, as reported by the Jordan News Agency (Petra), amid the ongoing Israeli attacks in Gaza. Egypt has also shown grave concern regarding the intensifying hostilities between Israel and Lebanon, urging international and regional actors to intervene to calm the situation and avert further turmoil in the region, according to Egyptian media.
Sufian Qudah, the spokesperson for the Jordanian Foreign Ministry, emphasized the importance of supporting Lebanon, ensuring its security, stability, and the protection of its people and institutions. He highlighted the necessity of abiding by Security Council Resolution 1701 to mitigate and prevent further escalation and safeguard the region from the threat of a broader war. Qudah further stated that the Israeli conflict in Gaza and the lack of a negotiated agreement leading to a lasting ceasefire pose a significant risk of the conflict spreading.
Meanwhile, Egypt has again called for a comprehensive ceasefire and an end to the hostilities in Gaza, stressing the imperative of preventing additional instability, conflict, and threats to global peace and security. In a statement released Sunday by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Egypt expressed concern about the potential for a new war front in Lebanon, underscoring the critical need to uphold Lebanon's stability and sovereignty. Egypt pointed out the alarming and swiftly worsening conditions in southern Lebanon, serving as a stark reminder of its earlier warnings about the perils of unchecked escalation in the region, exacerbated by the Gaza crisis and Israeli aggression towards the Palestinian population in Gaza.
