Justin Timberlake just can't seem to shake off the spotlight on his recent DWI incident. The 43-year-old singer, known for his hit 'Cry Me a River,' became the subject of a joke in the Season 2 premiere of the CBS police procedural, 'Elsbeth,' which subtly referenced his June arrest in the Hamptons.

In the opening minutes of the second season's debut on October 17, the show's main character, Elsbeth Tascioni (played by Carrie Preston), and her NYPD colleague Kaya Blanke (Carra Patterson), walk through the streets of Manhattan, lamenting the lack of scandalous crimes that would challenge their detective skills. 'What happened to all our high-profile cases?' Tascioni complains. 'Oh, they're all in Martha's Vineyard, Tuscany...driving drunk in Sag Harbor,' Blake replies, prompting a sardonic smirk and laughter between the two.

Timberlake was charged with driving while intoxicated following his arrest in Sag Harbor, New York, on June 18. The pop star was cited for running a stop sign and failing to stay in his lane. He refused to take a breathalyzer test and made headlines by saying the incident would 'ruin the tour.' When the arresting officer asked, 'What tour?' Timberlake responded, 'The world tour.' The singer is currently on his Forget Tomorrow World Tour, and the exchange sparked numerous memes.

A police report disclosed that Timberlake claimed he only had 'one martini' on the night of his arrest. However, the report noted that he failed multiple field sobriety tests and exhibited signs of intoxication, such as poor balance and difficulty following instructions. Timberlake took a plea deal and pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of driving while ability impaired during a court appearance on September 13.

'I did not live up to the standard I hold myself to,' Timberlake told the judge. He also mentioned being 'raised on certain values' and acknowledged his influence as a public figure with the 'platform' he has built throughout his career. Timberlake paid a $500 fine, was sentenced to 25 hours of community service, and was ordered to make a public apology.

'This is a mistake that I made but I'm hoping that whoever is watching and listening right now can learn from this mistake,' Timberlake said outside a Sag Harbor courthouse. 'Even one drink — don't get behind the wheel of the car.'

'Elsbeth,' a spinoff of 'The Good Wife' and 'The Good Fight,' premiered in February 2024 and quickly gained popularity among viewers. The show airs Thursdays on CBS at 10 PM ET and is available to stream on Paramount+.
