Kamala Harris and her running mate Tim Walz are scheduled to have an interview with CNN on Thursday, following substantial criticism from Republicans and certain media outlets regarding the Democratic presidential candidate's avoidance of in-depth journalist questioning on various issues. CNN announced in a statement on Tuesday that the interview will be broadcast at 9pm ET (0100 GMT) on the same day. This marks Harris's inaugural interview since she secured the Democratic nomination after President Joe Biden withdrew his re-election bid on July 21, due to a subpar performance in a recent debate. Although Harris has sporadically addressed queries from journalists about foreign and economic policies during her campaign, she has not yet participated in a solo media interview or a formal press conference, which has drawn criticism from Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump. CNN anchor Dana Bash will conduct the interview in the battleground state of Georgia, as reported by CNN. At the recent Democratic National Convention, Harris outlined several broad policy objectives, including a tax cut for the middle class and a robust foreign policy stance against Russia and North Korea, while supporting a ceasefire in Gaza and advocating for a two-state solution in the Middle East. It is anticipated that she will engage in solo interviews where she will be questioned more thoroughly as the November 5 Election Day approaches, where she and Trump are expected to compete in a close contest. Trump has conducted press conferences and media interviews in the past few weeks, primarily focusing on critiquing the Biden administration's performance rather than elaborating on his own policy plans. Harris's last interview was in June, when she appeared on CNN to defend Biden's policy achievements following the Biden-Trump debate and conceded that the US president had a 'slow start' in that debate.
