Kandoo Kid, at 8-1, delivered a perfectly timed ride by Harry Cobden to overtake the front-running Broadway Boy in the Coral Gold Cup, marking Paul Nicholls' first victory in the race since Denman's second triumph in 2009. The eight-year-old grey, competing beyond three miles for the first time, was ridden patiently as Broadway Boy led the field, only to surge ahead on the approach to the final fence. Kandoo Kid maintained a strong pace to secure Cobden's maiden win in the feature event of Newbury's National Hunt season, with Broadway Boy (4-1 favorite) finishing just under two lengths behind and Victtorino (5-1) another three-and-a-half lengths back in third.

At Newcastle, Sir Gino, the 6-5 joint-favorite, dominated the Grade One Fighting Fifth Hurdle, capitalizing on a lackluster performance by Mystical Power, his main market rival, to win by eight lengths. Nicky Henderson's four-year-old, a last-minute substitute for Constitution Hill at Newcastle after the 2023 Champion Hurdle winner experienced a minor training setback, is now the 3-1 second-favorite for the Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham in March. Lossiemouth, set to debut this autumn in the Hatton's Grace Hurdle at Fairyhouse on Sunday, remains the favorite for the Champion Hurdle at around 5-2, while the reigning champion, State Man, who runs in the same colors as Sir Gino, is now at 4-1 to defend his title. Constitution Hill, a potential contender in the Christmas Hurdle at Kempton on Boxing Day, is currently the fourth-choice in the ante-post betting at 9-2.
