Last November, the iconic duo of Ralph Macchio, star of the original Karate Kid, and Jackie Chan, who starred in the 2010 remake, announced a fresh addition to the Karate Kid saga. The new film, titled Karate Kid Legends, is set to be directed by Johnathan Entwistle, renowned for his work on TV series such as I'm Not Okay With This and The End of the F***ing World. The screenplay will be penned by Rob Lieber.

This will mark the sixth installment in the Karate Kid franchise, following three films with Macchio as Daniel Larusso, The Next Karate Kid featuring Hillary Swank, and the 2010 remake starring Jaden Smith as Dre, with Chan taking on the role of Mr. Han, the Mr. Miyagi equivalent.

The official Karate Kid Twitter account unveiled the film's poster on a Friday morning, accompanied by the announcement of a panel at New York Comic Con later that evening. Ben Wang, an emerging talent known for his role in the upcoming 2024 film Mean Girls, will step into the leading role this time. The film also features Joshua Jackson and Ming-Na Wen.

Karate Kid Legends will shift the franchise's focus to the east coast of the US and follow the journey of a Chinese teenager who trains under the guidance of a tough yet wise mentor. Initially slated for release this year, the film is now set to premiere exclusively in theaters on May 30.

Before the movie's release, Netflix's Cobra Kai is expected to conclude, and it's been clarified that the hit series will not directly tie into Karate Kid Legends.
