Kate Middleton’s college roommate, Laura Warshauer, recently shared a never-before-seen photo of herself with the future queen. Warshauer, who lived with the future Princess of Wales at St. Salvator’s Hall during their first year at St. Andrews University in 2001, posted the image on Instagram in July. The photo, which has only recently gained attention online, captures the two women at a party hosted by Prince William and Kate at their off-campus Hope St. house in their second year.

In the picture, Kate and her former roommate are seen smiling while enjoying brownie bites. Warshauer captioned the photo with, “Sending love to Kate Middleton, the future Queen of England and my university dormmate! This was us at a Hope Street flat party. I have the loveliest college memories with Kate.” She further described Kate as “the kindest, most caring, down-to-earth, genuine person,” and expressed admiration for her compassion and courage.

The photo was shared four months after the princess revealed her cancer diagnosis in a video released on March 22. Kate had undergone a planned abdominal surgery in January, which led to the discovery of her illness. She then began a course of chemotherapy and was absent from public life until her announcement in March, sparking numerous conspiracy theories about her absence.

Warshauer, now a singer-songwriter, posted the photo on the same day Kate shared Instagram stories supporting the London Natural History Museum, indicating a gradual return to her royal duties. The picture also surfaced shortly after Kate’s appearance at Wimbledon, where she received a standing ovation.

Kate announced the completion of her chemotherapy on September 9, declaring herself “cancer-free.” She has since resumed her official royal engagements and is expected to attend The Cenotaph war memorial in London on November 10 to mark Remembrance Day.

Warshauer previously spoke about her college friendship with William and Kate after their engagement in 2010. She recalled her first impression of Kate, describing her as “lovely.” Warshauer also noted that Prince William could walk around without attracting undue attention, despite his royal status.

The St. Andrews alum remembered Kate being voted “prettiest girl” in St. Salvator’s Hall at the end of their first year. Warshauer emphasized Kate’s grounded nature and genuine personality, stating, “I don’t feel like she’ll ever change.”

To celebrate their wedding, Warshauer composed a song titled “To Will and Kate, Meet Me at Exit 109.” Although she is no longer in contact with the royals, she cherishes the memories from their time together, describing them as “romantic and magical.”
