Katie Boulter is set to enter the world's top 25 for the first time after securing her spot in the third WTA Tour final of the season at the Hong Kong Tennis Open. The British No 1 fought hard to secure a 6-2, 5-7, 6-2 win against China's Yuan Yue, ensuring she will rise to at least 23rd in the rankings on Monday.

Boulter has already claimed titles in San Diego and Nottingham this year and aims to uphold her perfect record in tour-level finals when she faces either Leylah Fernandez or Diana Shnaider on Sunday. "That was an incredible match," Boulter said in her on-court interview, wiping away a few tears. "She made it very challenging. I had to keep believing, keep fighting, and find a way to win. I'm a bit grumpy today, a bit tired, but I managed to find a way, so I'm really pleased with that.

"I'm super excited to have a shot in the final. I wanted to end my year on a high, which is why today was so important to me. I have nothing to lose tomorrow, and I'm just going to play freely and enjoy it." Boulter got off to a strong start, winning four consecutive games to take a commanding lead in the first set. She also led 3-1 in the second set but began to make errors, allowing the 28-year-old to be pulled back before sixth seed Yuan broke serve to force a decider. However, Boulter kept pushing and was not to be denied in the third set, taking a 4-0 lead and sealing her first match point with an ace.
