Kerala's health minister, Veena George, is set to urgently travel to Kuwait to coordinate relief efforts for families affected by the devastating fire in a residential building. The state government announced this following a special cabinet meeting led by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. They declared an ex gratia of Rs500,000 for the families of the deceased and Rs100,000 for the injured from the June 12 incident in Mangaf, Kuwait, where over 40 Indians lost their lives. Kerala's State Mission Director (NHM), Jeevan Babu, will accompany George to manage the treatment of injured individuals and the repatriation of the deceased's bodies. The state cabinet confirmed that the death toll of Keralites has risen to 19. Additionally, prominent Kerala businessmen Yusuf Ali and Ravi Pillai pledged to donate Rs500,000 and Rs200,000 respectively, through the Non-Resident Keralite's Affairs (NORKA), increasing the total aid to Rs1.2 million per family. The cabinet also conveyed its condolences and stated that NORKA, along with expatriates, is leading efforts to assist the victims. A help desk and a global contact centre are operational 24/7, and the state government pledges full support to the Indian government's interventions in Kuwait. Professor KV Thomas, Kerala's representative in Delhi, is in continuous contact with the Ministry of External Affairs.
