Kia discontinued the Cadenza in the United States in 2021, but introduced a successor in South Korea later that year. The sedan, known as the K7 in its home market, transitioned to the K8 designation for the new generation. Currently, a mid-cycle update has been rolled out. Following Kia's tradition, the modifications are substantial, despite being technically a facelift. Adopting Kia's contemporary design language, the K8 features vertical headlights, giving the vehicle a futuristic look. The front end has been completely redesigned, and now includes a wide LED strip connecting the headlights. Additionally, Kia's logo has been relocated from the bumper to the bottom of the hood.
The rear modifications are subtler, but notable is the removal of the unsightly fake exhaust tips. The taillights remain largely unchanged, while the redesigned bumper presents a cleaner look. Uncommon for a facelift, the front and rear overhangs are slightly extended after reshaping the bumpers. Inside, significant adjustments have been made. The updated climate controls are now positioned below the central air vents. Kia has incorporated more soft-touch materials and an LED ambient light strip that divides the dashboard. In the rear, the seatbelt buckles now illuminate. Safety features include 10 airbags as standard across all models. The headlights also include an adaptive high beam that partially dims to avoid distracting oncoming drivers.
Remembering that the Cadenza was exclusively front-wheel drive, the K8 has been available in Korea with optional all-wheel drive since its launch. Power comes from a 2.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine producing 195 hp and 183 lb-ft for the base model. For more power, a 3.5-liter V-6 engine offers 296 hp and 265 lb-ft, available only with AWD. Alternatively, customers can choose a 3.5 LPI, which stands for liquid propane injection, delivering 237 hp and 231 lb-ft. The final powertrain option is a hybrid 1.6-liter unit, rated at a combined 227 hp and 258 lb-ft.
Despite Kia branding the BMW 5 Series-sized 2025 K8 as "The Priceless," the luxury sedan does have a price tag. The base model starts at approximately $27,300, which seems quite reasonable. Even the top-of-the-line model is priced at $37,800. All versions, excluding the hybrid, will go on sale this month. The electrified model will be available once Kia secures the necessary certification.
