Kimberly Van Der Beek, wife of actor James Van Der Beek, has expressed her support following his public revelation of a colorectal cancer diagnosis. The 47-year-old, known for his role in “Dawson’s Creek,” disclosed the news to People magazine before addressing his social media followers about the timing of his announcement.

“’It is cancer…'” Van Der Beek’s Instagram post began. He explained that while he had planned to discuss his diagnosis in detail with People magazine to raise awareness on his own terms, the plan changed when he learned a tabloid was about to break the news.

Van Der Beek, who has been undergoing treatment privately, maintains a positive outlook. “I’m in a good place and feeling strong. It’s been quite the initiation, and I’ll tell you more when I’m ready,” he wrote, also apologizing to those he had intended to inform personally.

Kimberly commented on her husband’s post with a simple, “I love you baby ♥️” Colorectal cancer, according to the Cleveland Clinic, originates from growths in the colon’s inner lining and can present symptoms such as abdominal pain, bloated stomach, unexplained weight loss, vomiting, blood in the stool, and changes in bowel habits.

Days before his announcement, Kimberly shared a throwback photo with her husband, reflecting on their journey together. The couple married in 2010 and have six children. Kimberly has experienced two miscarriages, one in 2019 and another in 2020, which James has spoken about openly.

Van Der Beek gained fame for his role as Dawson Leery on “Dawson’s Creek,” which aired from 1998 to 2003 and also featured stars like Katie Holmes, Michelle Williams, and Joshua Jackson.
