Britain's King Charles left guests in awe when he addressed them in Arabic during a state banquet held in honor of the Emir of Qatar at Buckingham Palace. The Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, was in Britain for a two-day state visit. At a grand state banquet, which saw the presence of notable figures including David Beckham, King Charles surprised the attendees by delivering his speech in Arabic. The 76-year-old monarch started with the words: "Assalam walekum," eliciting a smile from the Emir of Qatar.

King Charles continued: “The United Kingdom is proud to be Qatar’s oldest friend in the Western world. We have a special bond founded on mutual respect which has stood the test of time.”
