Komatsu, a global leader in construction and mining equipment, is increasing its footprint in the Middle East, especially in the UAE, where infrastructure needs are expanding alongside population growth, according to its top executive.
Tomomitsu Hoga, Managing Director of Komatsu Middle East FZE, highlighted the UAE’s 2031 roadmap, which focuses on investments in tourism, renewable energy, and sustainability, as a significant opportunity for the company. With COP28 promoting renewable energy, Komatsu aims to support the region’s sustainable development through advanced machinery and innovative solutions, which are key strengths of the company globally, Hoga noted during an interview.
Komatsu’s journey in the Middle East began in 1964, with a liaison office established in Dubai in 1977. In 1997, operations were moved to the Jebel Ali Free Zone, and in 1999, Komatsu Middle East FZE was formally set up. Today, the company serves as the regional headquarters for the Middle East, with its parent company based in Tokyo, Japan. In 2019, Komatsu made a significant leap forward by establishing a regional headquarters that includes a state-of-the-art Training and Demonstration Centre, a Regional Parts Distribution Centre, and the Dubai Stock Operation, spanning 46,298sqm in the Jebel Ali Free Zone.
The Dubai Training and Demonstration Centre (DTDC) offers training programs for Komatsu distributors across the Middle East and Africa, covering workplace safety, sales, parts, service, and machine operations. The centre is equipped with over 10 machines to provide demonstrations, trial operations, and operator training to meet customer needs and enhance equipment performance. The Regional Parts Distribution Centre in Dubai, spanning 10,000sqm, holds 37,000 active SKUs, ensuring timely and efficient parts delivery to maximize productivity and minimize machine downtime.
The Dubai Stock Operation (DSO) manages the inventory of new Komatsu machines, enabling faster delivery to customers across the region and allowing distributors to focus on enhancing their facilities and supporting customer needs. Komatsu’s Service Division, staffed with experienced professionals, provides vital support to distributors, ensuring machine reliability and minimizing downtime.
Komatsu views the strengthened bilateral relations between the UAE and Japan as an opportunity to contribute to key UAE projects in partnership with Galadari Brothers. The company is committed to achieving net-zero CO2 emissions by 2050 through initiatives that include expanding power sources for construction equipment, such as battery, fuel cell, biofuel, e-fuel, diesel-electric, and hydrogen machines. Komatsu also focuses on corporate social responsibility (CSR) and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) initiatives, fostering a sustainable future for people, businesses, and the planet.
Galadari Trucks and Heavy Equipment Co. Ltd. (GTHE), a subsidiary of the Galadari Brothers conglomerate, has been Komatsu’s authorized distributor in the UAE for over 40 years. In 2020, Galadari achieved the highest market share for Komatsu globally, reflecting the strength of their partnership. Komatsu takes pride in this evolving partnership and looks forward to creating further value together.
