Lady Gabriella Windsor has broken her silence for the first time since her husband, Thomas Kingston, tragically took his own life earlier this year. Thomas, aged 45, died from a gunshot wound to the head on February 25th. His body was found at his parents' home in the Cotswolds, with a weapon nearby.

Lady Gabriella, who is King Charles' second cousin, shared her thoughts on Thomas' final, impulsive act in a heartfelt witness statement read at Gloucestershire Coroner’s Court on December 3rd, as reported by The Telegraph. She suggested that Thomas' impulsive decision might have been triggered by an adverse reaction to the medication he had been taking in the last two weeks of his life.

In her statement, Lady Gabriella, who was reportedly sobbing as her words were read, emphasized that her husband had never expressed any suicidal thoughts to her or others during their relationship. While she acknowledged that work had been a challenge for him over the years, she doubted it would have driven him to take his own life, especially since it seemed to be improving.

Lady Gabriella's statement continued, highlighting that if Thomas had been troubled, he would have shared his struggles. The fact that he took his life at his parents' home, where he felt loved, suggests the decision was made on the spur of the moment.

She believes a bad reaction to his medication was the primary reason behind his tragic decision. Lady Gabriella urged greater awareness of the side effects of such medications to prevent future deaths. She concluded her statement with a poignant message: “If this could happen to Tom, this could happen to anyone.”

Thomas had been experiencing sleep issues and was prescribed zopiclone by Dr. Nicky Naunton Morgan, who also serves as an apothecary to King Charles and Queen Camilla. He was also taking sertraline for anxiety but stopped briefly as it made him feel overly anxious. His prescription was later changed to diazepam and citalopram, and it was revealed he had doubled his dosage of sleep medication.

The couple had been married for four years before Thomas' death. He had previously dated Kate Middleton’s sister, Pippa. Buckingham Palace announced his death on February 27th, describing it as a “great shock.” Prince William represented the family at Thomas’ private funeral in March, which was followed by a private cremation.

The inquest into Thomas’ death is still ongoing.
