Participants of the Lamborghini Student Design Challenge 2024 gathered with the esteemed judges of the competition.

Lamborghini Abu Dhabi and Dubai, in partnership with the American University in Dubai’s School of Architecture, Art, and Design (SAAD), Interior Design Department, proudly unveiled the 2nd Edition of the Lamborghini Student Design Challenge 2024. This month-long event offered students the chance to craft an outdoor car display featuring a model that encapsulates the spirit of Lamborghini. Contestants were tasked with integrating Lamborghini’s harmonious blend of cutting-edge technology, superior craftsmanship, and legendary design into their projects. They aimed to replicate the brand’s distinctive, aerodynamic lines, designed to glide through the air and master the road. This fusion of high-tech innovation and genuine design principles formed the cornerstone of their creative visions. The challenge breathed life into Lamborghini’s iconic design ethos through the forward-thinking ideas of future architects and designers.

Each student was mandated to design a display that accentuated Lamborghini’s sculptural aesthetics, focusing on its sharp hexagonal shapes and elegant roof contours. Their displays were required to exhibit both the car’s visual allure and its advanced technological features, illuminated by full LED lighting to amplify its dynamic presence. Furthermore, students engineered lightweight, modular structures that could be effortlessly assembled and disassembled, ensuring practical usability for both visitors and operators.

"It was incredibly inspiring to see the ingenuity and originality demonstrated by the students from AUD's School of Architecture, Art, and Design," remarked Ahmed Darrag, head of marketing at Lamborghini Abu Dhabi and Dubai. "Every design masterfully captured the essence of Lamborghini's iconic identity, merging our dedication to cutting-edge technology with audacious, eye-catching aesthetics. The skill and fervor displayed throughout this competition signify the future of design, and we are honored to support the emerging generation of visionaries in their creative endeavors."

The competition imposed stringent requirements, emphasizing effective lighting for both daytime and nighttime displays, judicious material choices for cost-effectiveness, and streamlined operational logistics. Students were expected to deliver thorough presentations that encompassed mood boards, visuals, detailed plans, and scale models to comprehensively illustrate their design concepts. They were also required to submit a concept statement with references, visuals, and precise annotations.

Their inventive strategies underscored their abilities and emphasized the significance of blending creativity with practicality in design," noted Professor Annamaria Lambri, chair of the Department of Interior Design and Associate Professor of Interior Design. "This partnership with Lamborghini Abu Dhabi and Dubai expanded new horizons of learning for our students and offered them invaluable chances to interact with a brand that epitomizes design excellence."

The projects were nurtured in the Studio class IDES 392-Interior Design Studio VI: Smart Design, under the guidance of Prof. Annamaria Lambri, AUD chair of the Interior Design Department and associate professor of Interior Design, and professor Poupak Parvaresh, with the collaboration of the Lamborghini Abu Dhabi and Dubai Team.

The jury awarded the following winners:

1st place: Sandra Abdelmacih and Elana Aridi – Project Vento

2nd place: Malak Abdelkader – Project Il Toro

3rd place: Yasmine Khalife – Project Slice

This year’s event highlighted the remarkable talent of budding designers while fortifying the alliance between Lamborghini Abu Dhabi and Dubai and the American University in Dubai, Interior Design Department, promoting creativity and innovation within the design sector.
