Lara Spencer is recovering well! The 55-year-old co-anchor of "Good Morning America" shared the reason behind her absence from the show this week, revealing a challenging health issue she’s been dealing with. On Wednesday, Dec. 11, Spencer took to social media to open up to her followers. Posting a photo of her bandaged feet, the popular TV host announced that she had undergone double surgery. "If I look a bit drowsy, it’s because of this guy who just gave me a new pair of boots (frame 2—wish they were cowboy boots, but that will have to wait about 6 weeks, hopefully)," she captioned the photos, which also included a picture of her smiling with her surgeon.

She explained that one surgery was to reverse a previous operation, while the other was to address an old college injury. "My right foot was straightforward—just had a plate removed from last year’s surgery," Spencer wrote. "The left foot is a bigger deal, stemming from a very old college diving injury. I was doing a reverse one and a half and hit the board, shattering my toes and joints." The seasoned morning show host continued, "Back then, they said there was nothing you could do except tape it, let it heal, and live with the pain," before praising her doctor and making a light-hearted joke. "Today, there are much better options, thanks to surgeons like Dr. Marty O’Malley at HSS," she added. "These boots were made for walkin……"

Several of Spencer’s colleagues sent their best wishes for a quick recovery. "Wow! No doubt you’ll be twirling in no time!" commented Deborah Roberts, co-anchor of ABC News’ "20/20." "Jesus!!! Who does both feet at the same time???? My girl, that’s who! So tough! Sending you speedy love for a fast recovery! We’ve got dancing to do," wrote Dr. Jennifer Ashton, the former medical chief of "GMA." "Sweetie!! Feel better soon," added Rebecca Jarvis, the show’s chief business, economics, and technology correspondent.

In 2023, Spencer disclosed that O’Malley had operated on her foot for a torn plantar plate and ligament that was "slowly getting worse and worse." The television star is a graduate of Pennsylvania State University, where she attended on an athletic scholarship for springboard and platform diving. She was a nationally ranked competitive diver, according to the Daily Mail. During her senior year in 1991, Spencer was named an All-American Athlete and graduated with a degree in broadcast journalism.

In addition to "GMA," Spencer’s credits include "Nightline," "The Insider," CBS’ "The Early Show," "Antiques Roadshow," and more. It remains unclear when she will return to "GMA." The Post reached out to the show for comment.
