If you're still on the fence about booking a summer trip due to concerns over high prices, fear not – there's still time to snag a deal. You can strategically plan your getaway for dates when prices drop significantly during the summer break. According to research by travel website Expedia, July is set to be the peak travel month, with the busiest days being July 11 and 19. However, if you haven't finalized your holiday plans, traveling on August 27 or 30 could secure you the best deal.
The study shows that delaying your trip until late August can result in substantial savings, whether you're planning a cultural trip to Europe, an adventure in Asia, or a relaxing staycation within the UAE. Khaleej Times conducted a comparative analysis of airfares on various travel websites, including Sky Scanner, Expedia, and Ease My Trip, and found a significant decrease in airfare towards the end of August.
The analysis reveals that the average round-trip airfare for Caucasian countries in July is around Dh1,700, which remains steady until the third week of August. However, the airfare drops by nearly 20 percent during the last three days of the month. Similarly, the average one-way airfare to several European destinations like France, Switzerland, the UK, and Sweden is Dh1,000. But during the last three days of August, the price falls by nearly 30 percent to around Dh680.
For those planning a trip to Asian countries, significant savings can also be made. For instance, the average one-way airfare to India until the third week of August is Dh800. On August 28, the airfare drops to Dh430, a reduction of about 40 percent. Expedia's research indicates that the high demand for accommodation in July drives prices up, making it the most expensive month to travel. Conversely, late August sees a decrease in demand, leading to more competitive pricing.
Khaleej Times' findings on Booking.com show that a three or four-star accommodation in Bangkok for four nights for two adults costs around Dh1,100. During the last week of the month, the same hotels offer a significant discount of nearly 45 percent. Similarly, a three-night stay at a four-star property in the Maldives is priced at Dh3,200, but prices are substantially reduced towards the end of August.
The average accommodation rate in Baku, Azerbaijan for three nights until the end of August is Dh1,300. Websites display reduced prices on August 28, 29, and 30, with nightly rates starting at just Dh120 for a three-star accommodation. Local travel agencies and tour operators note that package prices are generally reduced at the end of August due to several factors.
"August end is a period when many vacationing families return to the UAE. The return airfare is slightly higher and not as competitive as the outbound journey. Additionally, many residents are preparing for the academic year and do not travel, which lowers the cost of accommodation," explained Mir Wasim Raja, manager at Galadari International Travel Services. "However, travelers should remember that significant discounts are available if they book a package early. They should not wait for last-minute bookings. Residents can take advantage of the substantial savings available," Raja added.
