Latitude Yachts has commenced construction on its 26.3-metre project Laniakea, dubbed 'the world's first sports catamaran'. Laniakea features a sleek, geometric design and lightweight carbon construction, which translates to reduced fuel consumption and increased interior space. The naval architecture is credited to Dixon Yachts.

Project Laniakea's four waterjet engines, positioned outboard, enable the yacht to accommodate six guest cabins and two crew cabins. Interior renderings showcase a minimalist, monochromatic style by Latitude Yachts' Chulhun Park, renowned for the 49.5-metre superyacht Khalilah. Laniakea will also integrate superstructure solar panels and 'the latest smart technology' for navigation, entertainment, and climate control.

CEO Valdis Irbe remarked, 'Laniakea embodies a seamless fusion of craftsmanship and innovation. We are excited to present a vessel that not only surpasses performance benchmarks but also reimagines luxury at sea.'

Laniakea's propulsion system, developed in partnership with BMW, allows for a top speed of 27 knots and a cruising speed of 16 knots. With a draft of just 0.6 metres, Laniakea can navigate shallow waters, such as those found in the Bahamas and Caribbean. Latitude Yachts is perhaps best known for the 53.3-metre sci-fi trimaran Galaxy of Happiness.
