Laura Prepon has accused her ex-husband, Ben Foster, of engaging in 'alcohol abuse' during their ongoing divorce proceedings. The couple, who tied the knot in 2018, announced the end of their six-year marriage in September and are currently embroiled in a custody battle over their two children.
Foster had requested the court to establish a temporary custody schedule, stating that he and Prepon were unable to reach an agreement. According to documents obtained by In Touch, Foster claimed that he had made multiple attempts to create a parenting plan but was met with failure. Prepon, 44, has since responded to Foster's court filing, alleging his alcohol use and urging the court to prohibit Foster from drinking when he is with their children.
The former couple shares a daughter, Ella, who is 7 years old, and a son born in 2020, whose name has not been disclosed publicly. In the legal documents, Prepon expressed concerns about their children staying with Foster in his high-rise apartment, accusing him of frequently 'day drinking' and having a 'longstanding history of alcohol abuse.' She provided an example, alleging that Foster became heavily intoxicated after their daughter's birth and ended up locked out of their New York apartment, found sleeping on the doorstep in his underwear.
Prepon also claimed that Foster is often seen carrying a cup or thermos, which allegedly contains coffee mixed with whiskey. She further alleged that Foster experiences shaky hands in the morning and frequently requests small bottles of alcohol during flights. Prepon stated that Foster has been denied alcohol by flight attendants in the past and has been found unconscious in front of their children. During a scheduled visit in October, Prepon claimed Foster smelled of alcohol.
Prepon emphasized her role as the primary caretaker for their children and accused Foster of 'creative sabotage' when discussing important matters. She is requesting that Foster be forbidden from consuming alcohol before and during his time with the kids, or that a supervisor be present during visitation. Representatives for Foster have not yet commented on the allegations.
Foster filed for divorce on September 9, citing 'irreconcilable differences' as the reason for the split. He also requested the court to enforce the prenuptial agreement signed before their marriage. Prepon and Foster first met as teenagers and began a romantic relationship in July 2016, getting engaged later that year and marrying in May 2018. Prepon shared their wedding on Instagram in June 2018 with a heartfelt message.
