Dubai's Rayhan Thomas showcased his skills during the final round of the International Series - Thailand on the Asian Tour, as Chinese Taipei’s Lee Chieh-po secured a remarkable victory with a final-round 63, finishing at 21-under-par 259. LIV Golf’s Peter Uihlein narrowly missed the top spot, ending one stroke behind with a 67, tying with Canada’s Richard T. Lee at 20 under. Thomas finished tied seventh at 16 under par, shooting a commendable 58 alongside earlier rounds of 69, 63, and 64, totaling 264.
“It has been a very good week for me,” Thomas shared with Khaleej Times post-round. “Today, however, wasn’t my best performance; I struggled with my drives and missed several fairways, not hitting my irons close enough. My overall game was slightly off.” He expressed excitement and nerves playing in the final match, especially alongside his Oklahoma State University teammate, Uihlein. “Catching up with him was enjoyable, and I look forward to more golf together in the future.”
Thomas remained resilient throughout the day, making key birdies towards the end of his round, satisfied with his result. “I would have gladly accepted a tied 7th at the start of the week, exceeding my expectations,” he concluded. His week on the course included one eagle, 19 birdies, 48 pars, and four bogeys. Thomas earned $44,380.00 and moved to 33rd in the 2024 International Series Rankings on the Asian Tour, though he does not feature in the Asian Tour Rankings due to his decision not to become an Affiliate member prior to his first event, the International Series—Morocco, where he finished tied 8th.
Following the tournament, Thomas heads to Spain for the second stage of the DP World Tour Qualifying School at Fontanals Golf Club, Girona, starting on October 31st and ending November 3rd, 2024, over 72 holes. Meanwhile, Dubai VISA Awardee Gaganjeet Bhullar finished tied 19th, moving up to 49th in the Asian Tour Rankings and 23rd in the International Series Rankings as the leading Indian player.
