A remaster of both Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver games was unveiled during September's State of Play, validating earlier leaks from the PlayStation Network. The latest State of Play trailer also confirmed the previously leaked December 10 release date and revealed that the remaster is being developed by Crystal Dynamics and Aspyr. The two games are packaged together as Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1&2 Remastered. This release coincides with the franchise's 25th anniversary and offers players the choice to experience the games in their original visuals or with remastered graphics. The trailer only specified availability on PS4 and PS5, which is understandable given the State of Play context, leaving the question of Xbox, PC, and other platform releases unanswered. However, it is probable that the remaster will extend to other platforms, considering the original games were also available on PC, not just PlayStation. When the original Soul Reaver launched in 1999 and its sequel in 2001, GameSpot's reviews were positive. Greg Kasavin awarded Soul Reaver an 8.2/10, while Joe Fielder gave Soul Reaver 2 an 8.8/10. Here's to hoping the remaster aligns both games with contemporary player expectations.
