Subaru's Group A rally cars from the 1990s and 2000s are legendary. Drivers like Colin McRae and Richard Burns used these vehicles to elevate Subaru's status in Europe, solidifying the brand's reputation as a powerhouse on loose surfaces. Only a few of these Prodrive-built Imprezas remain, and one is now up for sale.

According to its listing on RaceCarsDirect.com, this GC8-bodied Impreza served as McRae's test car from 1993 to 1996. After its stint in the limelight, it was sold to a private owner and underwent a complete restoration in 2020. The engine was meticulously rebuilt by English firm Autosportif Engineering.

Since its restoration, the car has only participated in one event: the 2022 RallyLegend weekend in San Marino. You can watch it compete against other iconic Subaru rally cars in the video below. The Impreza is still in race-ready condition, according to the seller. Its seat belts, fire extinguishers, and fuel tank are all up to date. The seats are new, but the original Prodrive carbon buckets are included for authenticity.

Currently configured for tarmac rallies, the car comes with all the original Prodrive equipment needed to convert it for gravel events. Given the rarity of these Imprezas in race-ready condition, they don't come cheap. This particular model is located in Italy with an asking price of £390,000, or approximately $500,000 at current exchange rates. Anyone daring enough to rally in such a valuable car certainly commands our respect.
