Lego Horizon Adventures is set to debut this week on PS5 and PC, and at first glance, it appears to be a convincing Lego toybox replica. This artistic direction is intentional, as co-developer Studio Gobo has detailed how every element in the game is crafted from actual Lego bricks—digitized for the game—and can be reconstructed at home with the right pieces and an eye for detail. Fortunately, an official Lego Horizon Tallneck set is available to help enthusiasts get started.
"Everything you encounter in Lego Horizon Adventures is made entirely from real Lego bricks, so if you have the right pieces at home, you could rebuild anything from the world, including the machines, treasure chests, and Mother’s Heart," explained Guerrilla's senior community manager Anne van der Zanden on the PS Blog.
What makes this project impressive is Studio Gobo's goal to capture the essence of the Horizon series as accurately as possible, from intricate details to the grand locales that Aloy explores. "We began in a very realistic manner, rebuilding the original Old World buildings from the Horizon games," added Guerrilla art director Roy Postma. "Then, someone introduced an official Lego set in the background, like the Lego gas station, and we thought, 'This can work, this is fun!' It made perfect sense for the Old World to become our Lego world."
Lego Horizon Adventures is scheduled for release on November 14. While it remains to be seen how well the IP aligns with the comedic nature of a Lego game, it could mark the beginning of more family-friendly titles that Sony aims to focus on. For Horizon fans eager to explore the original game, a remastered version of Horizon Zero Dawn is also available, significantly upgrading the visuals to match Horizon Forbidden West.
