Following the unfortunate passing of actor Lance Reddick in 2023, fans of the Horizon series were left wondering about the fate of his character, Sylens. With the recent release of Lego Horizon Adventures, it has been confirmed—at least in this spin-off game—that Sylens does make an appearance, voiced by Star Trek Voyager actor Tim Russ. As a deuteragonist in the games, Sylens shares several similarities with Horizon's protagonist, Aloy, as both delve into the hidden history of their world after a cataclysmic event led to machines dominating the ecosystem.

Russ is not new to the Horizon universe, having previously portrayed the character Jetakka in Horizon Forbidden West. In Lego Horizon Adventures, he appears as 'DJ Sylens' (via IGN). Earlier this year, Horizon developer Guerrilla announced that Sylens had been recast for Lego Horizon Adventures but was not ready to disclose the details at that time. Several original Horizon voice actors also feature in the Lego game, including Ashly Burch as Aloy, JB Blanc as Rost, and John Macmillan as Varl.

In addition to his role as Sylens, Reddick also lent his voice to Zavala in Bungie's Destiny games. Following his death, Destiny 2 players organized an in-game vigil in his honor, and Bungie later revealed that his role would be taken over by Keith David starting with The Final Shape expansion.

Mark Delaney of GameSpot commented in his review of Lego Horizon Adventures, 'Via bricks and minifigs, Horizon is charmingly remade for a younger audience, though its formulaic missions may strain players of all ages.' The game is set to officially launch for PS5, PC, and Switch on November 14.
