Lego's annual Black Friday sale tradition of launching a new large-scale set is back, this time featuring a detailed model of a renowned oceanic ship: The Endurance. The 3,011-piece set is priced at $270 and is available for order now. As part of the Cyber Monday promotion, buyers will receive three bonus sets, one of which is exclusive to those who purchase The Endurance.
Lego has meticulously crafted this replica to ensure authenticity. Although not an expert on early 19th-century boats, the model certainly looks the part. The completed build is substantial, measuring 31.5 inches long, 9.5 inches wide, with the tallest sail extending 18.5 inches from the ground. The Endurance is a three-masted barquentine with 10 sails, featuring numerous moving parts. Sections can be removed to reveal the port and starboard cabins, steam engine, and more. The set includes four detachable lifeboats, a functional wheel that controls the rudder, and a chained bower anchor.
For those unfamiliar, The Endurance was owned by Antarctic explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton. During the Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition in 1914, the ship became trapped in drift ice and eventually sank in 1915. The wreckage was discovered in 2022, over 100 years later, sitting nearly 10,000 feet below the Antarctic surface. The Lego model pays homage to the ship and the survival of Shackleton's 27-man crew.
The exclusive Black Friday freebie accompanying The Endurance is Shackleton's Lifeboat, valued at $25. This 232-piece kit includes minifigures of Shackleton and photographer Frank Hurley, along with accessories like an oar and camera. Lego has traditionally offered multiple freebies to incentivize larger purchases during Black Friday weekend. Shackleton's Lifeboat is exclusive to those who buy The Endurance from now through Cyber Monday, making it highly sought after by collectors.
Other freebies are available to all shoppers who meet specific order thresholds. The 294-piece Winter Holiday Train is included with orders of $170 or more, while the 310-piece Retro Record Player is offered for orders of $250 or more. These freebies can make even non-discounted sets appear more attractive, essentially providing a 'deal' on sets priced $170 and up.
For instance, the $300 Legend of Zelda: The Great Deku Tree 2-in-1 Set, which is already on backorder until mid-December, becomes a great buy this weekend. Purchasing this 2,500-piece set will net you the Winter Holiday Train and Retro Record Player for free. Act fast if you want it to arrive before Christmas.
