Leicester head coach Michael Cheika has been charged with prejudicial conduct by the Rugby Football Union (RFU). Cheika will appear before an independent disciplinary panel on Tuesday evening. He has been called to answer allegations of breaching RFU rule 5.12, which pertains to conduct detrimental to the game and/or the Union.
The RFU stated that Cheika is accused of disrespecting the independent match-day doctor following Leicester’s Premiership opener at Exeter on 21 September. Leicester secured a victory in the game thanks to a last-minute try from Tigers’ Wales international flanker Tommy Reffell.
Cheika, a former head coach of Australia, has only been at the helm of Leicester for two Premiership games, succeeding Dan McKellar. The Tigers narrowly defeated Exeter 17-14 at Sandy Park and then lost 20-15 to Bath at home. Their next fixture is an away game against Newcastle on Saturday.
