Almost two years back, news surfaced that Henry Cavill would be departing The Witcher following Season 3, with Liam Hemsworth, known from The Hunger Games, set to assume the role of Geralt of Rivia. Although Hemsworth hadn't watched the series before joining, he was well-acquainted with the character and his universe through The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
"I hadn't seen the TV show and I hadn't read the books, but I played the video game about ten years ago," Hemsworth shared during an interview on Live with Kelly and Mark via IGN. "It remains one of the best video games ever made, and Netflix approached me nearly two years ago to take over the role, which I was thrilled about since I was a fan of the game."
Hemsworth added that he only agreed to join the show after revisiting the previous seasons and reading Andrzej Sapkowski's original books. Last year, he mentioned that he had been "immersed in the books" while preparing for the role. Hemsworth will portray Geralt for two seasons, as Netflix has already renewed The Witcher for a fifth and final season. Netflix also recently teased a first glimpse of Hemsworth as Geralt as production for the fourth season commenced. The Witcher Season 4 is slated for a 2025 release, though an exact date has yet to be announced.
