Liam Payne referred to his girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, as a “weirdo” and “loser” in a chilling video posted just days before his tragic death. The 31-year-old former One Direction member mocked the influencer for cutting short their trip to return home on Monday, Oct. 14. “So it’s going to be a nice day, and then, you’re going home. Ha ha, loser, weirdo,” Payne joked in a now-deleted Snapchat video that has since gone viral. The “Strip That Down” singer appeared to be in high spirits, mentioning they were enjoying a “lovely day in Argentina.”

Cassidy later posted a TikTok of her solo flight back to the States, disclosing that their trip was initially planned for five days but extended to two weeks. She explained that she “needed to go home” and was “so ready to leave,” expressing her dislike for staying in one place too long. The couple began dating in 2022 and traveled to Buenos Aires earlier this month to see former One Direction singer Niall Horan’s concert on Oct. 2. Payne seemed to struggle without Cassidy by his side.

The “Teardrops” singer passed away on Oct. 16 after falling from his third-floor balcony at the CasaSur Hotel in Buenos Aires. Witnesses reported Payne was “acting erratic” in the hotel lobby, allegedly smashing his computer and being forcibly returned to his room before his fatal fall. A hotel guest also claimed to have heard “a really loud, violent scream” from his room just before the incident. The National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor’s Office stated in a report obtained by Page Six that they do not suspect foul play, though the investigation into the One Direction star’s death remains ongoing.

Shocking images from the scene showed Payne’s trashed hotel room, including a broken TV and drug paraphernalia. In a 911 call made shortly before his death, the hotel’s frantic chief receptionist urgently requested assistance, reporting that Payne was “on drugs and alcohol” and “destroying the room.” The receptionist expressed concern that Payne might harm himself, noting the presence of a balcony. “We need you to send someone urgently because, well, I don’t know if this guest’s life is at risk. They must be in a room that has a balcony. And well, we’re a little bit worried he’ll do something, that he’ll put his life at risk,” the receptionist stated.

Police were dispatched to the scene shortly after 5 p.m., but it was too late. Payne was reportedly dropped by his record label, Universal Music, days before his death. His ex-fiancée, Maya Henry, had recently taken legal action against him, alleging he was obsessively contacting her and her loved ones. Sources indicated that the singer was “extremely overwhelmed” by the legal turmoil. His former One Direction bandmates — Niall Horan, Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, and Louis Tomlinson — released joint and individual statements honoring their fallen friend.

“We’re completely devastated by the news of Liam’s passing,” their joint statement via Instagram read. “In time, and when everyone is able to, there will be more to say. But for now, we will take some time to grieve and process the loss of our brother, who we loved dearly.” They continued, “The memories we shared with him will be treasured forever,” the statement continued. “For now, our thoughts are with his family, his friends, and the fans who loved him alongside us. We will miss him terribly. We love you Liam. Louis, Zayn, Niall and Harry.” Payne leaves behind one child, son Bear, 7, whom he shared with Cheryl Cole.
