Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla addressed the Indian Diaspora in Moscow on Sunday, emphasizing that Indians living abroad are integral to India's development and modernization. Birla, who was leading the Indian Parliamentary delegation to the 10th BRICS Parliamentary Forum in St. Petersburg, Russia, commended the Indian Diaspora for their significant contributions to nation-building. He stated, "Indians living abroad are equal partners in India's development and modernization," and highlighted that Indians in Russia act as the country's brand ambassadors, influencing India's image through their actions and achievements.
Birla praised the disciplined, hardworking, and law-abiding nature of the Indian community in Russia, noting their pride-instilling contributions to the development of both nations. He acknowledged their notable participation in cultural events and festivals in India, despite their small numbers. Birla encouraged the Diaspora to continue promoting India in Russia and strengthening the bilateral relationship. He also noted the participation of Russians in Indian festivals, highlighting these people-to-people connections as the strength of the bilateral relations.
Birla urged the Diaspora to spread awareness about India's rich Sanatan culture, Yoga, ancient knowledge, and diversities among Russians, and to encourage them to visit India. He recalled Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent visit and interaction with the Indian community in Russia, elaborating on the new era of change, development, and prosperity initiated by the present government. Birla observed that Modi's energy and resolve for a developed India inspire selfless service.
Birla highlighted the enhanced global respect for Indians and the increased value of Indian passports due to the ongoing changes in India. He emphasized the strong bond between India and Russia, rooted in mutual trust and respect, noting their consistent support for each other in times of challenge. Birla described the relationship as unique, spanning friendship and family ties, and covering areas such as security, defence, trade, economy, science and technology, satellite navigation, and remote sensing. He urged the Indian Diaspora to further strengthen these ties and promote shared interests.
