A magnitude 5 earthquake hit Indonesia's Maluku province on Tuesday, according to the country's Meteorological, Climatological, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG). The epicenter was located 226km from the Tanimbar Islands at a depth of 163 km. There have been no reports of material damage or fatalities as a result of the earthquake thus far. Indonesia frequently experiences earthquakes due to its location on the Pacific Ring of Fire, where numerous tectonic plates converge, leading to frequent volcanic and seismic events.
