Tampa Bay (4-5) opted to kick the extra point to force overtime rather than attempting a two-point conversion for the win. Mahomes took control, completing all five of his passes on the overtime drive, and Hunt sealed the win with his decisive touchdown plunge.
Travis Kelce had 14 receptions for 100 yards, and Hopkins finished with eight catches for 86 yards as the Chiefs extended their winning streak to 14 games, dating back to last season. They became the sixth Super Bowl champion to start the following season with an 8-0 record.
Mayfield finished with 200 yards and two touchdown passes for the Bucs, who have now lost four of their last five games. Mahomes, who has a history of ankle injuries, had to be assisted off the field in the fourth quarter before returning to the game.
