British emergency services reported the arrest of a man following a stabbing incident in Southport, northwest England, on Monday, which led to a local children's hospital declaring a major incident.
The North West Ambulance Service confirmed it had attended to eight individuals with stab wounds, who were subsequently transported to three separate hospitals, including Alder Hey Children's Hospital. Merseyside Police disclosed that they had apprehended a man and confiscated a knife after responding to reports of a stabbing around 11.50am. The police assured there was no broader risk to the public.
Britain's interior minister, Yvette Cooper, expressed her deep concern over the serious incident in Southport on X. She conveyed her thoughts to the families and loved ones of those affected and had a conversation with the Merseyside Police & Crime Commissioner to offer full support to the police and express gratitude to the emergency services.
