A 49-year-old man has been apprehended in relation to an alleged sexual assault involving Tottenham season ticket holder Eve De Haan. In an article for the Guardian, De Haan recounted an incident where a Brentford supporter allegedly elbowed her in the face, sexually assaulted her, and subjected her to verbal abuse on an overground train after Tottenham's 3-1 victory over Brentford at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. De Haan mentioned that she reported the incident to staff at Seven Sisters station.
A spokesperson for the British Transport Police confirmed: “A 49-year-old man from Staines-upon-Thames has been arrested and has since been released on bail.”
Brentford FC issued a statement acknowledging that a suspect has been arrested and is under police investigation. The club pledged to provide full support to the authorities and will consider the findings before taking any action in accordance with their sanctions policy.
Tottenham, in a separate statement, expressed strong opposition to misogyny and all forms of violence against women and girls. The club, which was the first to sign the Mayor of London's women's night safety charter, has reached out to De Haan to offer support, including through their dedicated supporters' group for women and non-binary fans, Women of the Lane. Additionally, Tottenham is offering full support to the ongoing police investigation and plans to contact transport providers to discuss increasing train frequency on matchdays.
