Famed Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao has unveiled his intentions to establish a significant presence in Dubai. The 45-year-old, who holds the distinction of being an eight-division world champion and is widely considered one of the greatest boxers ever, shared his plans during a promotional visit to the city. Pacquiao not only aims to compete in Dubai but also intends to launch his sports academy. "I am planning to fight here in Dubai next year; we are currently working on the details, and there is ample time to prepare. I am seeking an opponent; it is likely the fight will be against Mikey Garcia," Pacquiao exclusively told Khaleej Times at a meet-and-greet event held at Global Village on Friday.

Pacquiao's fans flocked to the popular venue for a chance to meet the legendary boxer. The atmosphere was charged with excitement as fans eagerly awaited their turn to catch a glimpse of the legend. Many seized the opportunity to take photos with Pacquiao, who was dressed in an LV jacket, Prada shoes, and a Rolex Daytona, looking every bit the stylish sports icon.

Pacquiao's Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) will kick off the first two games of its 2024 National Finals in Dubai at Al Nasr Club on December 1 and 3. In addition to Global Village, Pacquiao will also visit Riverland on Saturday, November 30, where he will engage in another meet-and-greet session with his fellow Filipinos.

"I am deeply grateful for this invitation, and I hope people will come to watch the games and support my team. We have an exhibition game planned as well," he added.

Pacquiao announced that he will be establishing his 'Manny Pacquiao Sports Academy' in Dubai during the first quarter of next year. "The preparations are underway, and I am thrilled to bring this vision to reality. The academy will not only promote boxing and sports but also cultivate young talents," said the former eight-division champion.

Pacquiao's illustrious career spans over two decades, with 62 wins, 7 losses, and 2 draws. Known as 'PacMan,' he is the only boxer in history to win world titles in eight different weight divisions. Beyond his achievements in the ring, Pacquiao's legacy includes his philanthropic work, supporting various causes for Filipinos both at home and abroad.

In addition to his sporting pursuits, Pacquiao remains actively involved in politics. He plans to run for a Senate seat in the upcoming elections in the Philippines. "God willing, I will return to the Senate. Previously as a senator, I enacted a law—the Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) Handbook—to assist workers abroad with their requirements," said Pacquiao.

Pacquiao emphasized the importance of time management in balancing his roles in sports, politics, business, and family. "Time management is crucial. We must allocate time for each activity—such as workouts, family, business, and politics."

Reflecting on his fondness for Dubai, Pacquiao mentioned, "One of the things I love to eat in Dubai is dates. They are rich in nutrients and provide an instant energy boost. However, I have not yet tried the viral Dubai kunafa chocolate, but I plan to taste it during this trip," said Pacquiao.
