Marc Guéhi and his team, Crystal Palace, have received a formal notice from the Football Association regarding their rules after the defender wore a rainbow armband inscribed with 'I love Jesus' during Saturday's 1-1 draw against Newcastle. The 24-year-old has previously discussed his strong religious convictions, and it is understood that both he and Palace have been contacted by the FA, which states that any religious message on clothing, football boots, or other equipment is forbidden under Rule A4 of their regulations. The FA has not commented on whether any further action by Guehi could result in a charge.
The armbands are being worn as part of the Premier League's Rainbow Laces campaign, which runs from November 29 to December 5, to support the LGBTQ+ community within and beyond football. It is understood that no FA action will be taken regarding Ipswich captain Sam Morsy. His club released a statement on Monday indicating that he chose not to wear the armband due to his religious beliefs. The FA considers this a matter between Morsy and his club and does not view it as a violation of their regulations.
