Enthusiasts of Super Mario role-playing games have enjoyed a stellar year, with modernized versions of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door and Super Mario RPG now available on Nintendo Switch. The return of the Mario & Luigi series is imminent, as Mario & Luigi: Brothership is set to release exclusively on Nintendo Switch this Thursday, November 7.
If you haven't preordered a copy yet, you have until launch day to secure Best Buy's exclusive pin set as a preorder bonus. Additionally, if you haven't yet played the other Mario RPGs on Switch, you can take advantage of discounts on all three titles. These are among the many Mario games currently on sale at great prices. A comprehensive list of notable Mario game deals for Nintendo Switch is included at the end of this article.
Unlike many Nintendo games, Mario & Luigi: Brothership does not offer official, universal preorder bonuses. Instead, there are retailer-exclusive bonuses available at select US retailers: Best Buy, GameStop, and Target. Nintendo employed a similar strategy for the release of Super Mario Party Jamboree last month, with each retailer having different rules. Best Buy's Mario & Luigi pin set bonus is available for those who preorder online for delivery or in-store pickup. GameStop offers a two-pack of the same designs as keychains, while Target provides a two-pack of Mario & Luigi magnetic photo frames. Unfortunately, GameStop and Target only offer these bonuses in-store at launch, making them technically purchase bonuses—while supplies last, as Nintendo bonuses usually don't persist beyond the launch weekend.
AlphaDream, the studio behind all previous entries in the Mario & Luigi series, declared bankruptcy in 2019, months after the release of Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey. The series remained dormant until Nintendo unveiled Brothership during a Nintendo Direct earlier this year. Brothership is developed by Acquire, a studio with nearly 30 years of experience but new to Nintendo IP. Acquire is known for creating the Tenchu and Way of the Samurai franchises and more recently co-developed the Octopath Traveler series with Square Enix.
Unless otherwise specified, all game deals listed below are available at Amazon-owned retailer Woot. It's important to note that Woot now sells region-free Switch games, meaning you may not receive a North American version. The Switch is a region-free console, and all these games will play in English and function identically to the North American editions. However, if you receive a game from a different region and later want DLC, you will need to purchase it from the eShop corresponding to the base game's region.
