Almost three decades ago, Matthew Lillard took on the leading role of Stu Macher in the inaugural Scream film, one of the franchise's original killers. Despite not portraying Stu since 1996, Lillard had a humorous reaction when queried about a possible comeback in Scream 7. 'I am [Neve Campbell's understudy], I've been working on my girl-ish figure. I will have to [shave the beard]. That comes next,' Lillard quipped to GameSpot's Chris Hayner during New York Comic Con. His more earnest response was equally entertaining. 'No, I am not in the movie,' Lillard added, 'And even if I was, I would lie directly to your face. Until the day it came out, I would just lie to you.'

Given the dire state of Stu's injuries at the end of Scream, resurrecting him would challenge even this franchise's credibility. But should the improbable occur, Lillard has a vision. 'I would love that,' Lillard said. 'I would for sure roid out and get super yoked. I'll be like a Marvel superhero, but I'll be Stu, roided out and full of rage.'

Currently, Neve Campbell is the sole confirmed cast member returning for Scream 7. Courteney Cox recently revealed she is undecided about her involvement. Original Scream screenwriter Kevin Williamson will write and direct Scream 7, slated for a February 27, 2026 release. As for Lillard, he will reprise his role in Five Nights At Freddy's 2, which showcased its first poster during New York Comic Con.
